EXTENDED WATER OUTAGE - BROOKLYN
EXTENDED WATER OUTAGE - BROOKLYN
While repairs were underway, crews discovered an additional crack in the pipeline. This needs to be fixed safely before water can be restored, which has extended the outage.

We acknowledge the disruption this has caused and are working at pace to resolve this. Water tankers are on site for essential needs at 45 Connaught Street. We'll have staff door knocking and arranging for bottled water to be delivered to homes if necessary.

Portaloos have been arranged and will be onsite at approximately 7 pm. Addresses to be notified.

Thank you for your patience — we know this is a difficult time of day to be without water, and we really appreciate your understanding

Our team is working as quickly as possible, and we’ll update you again as soon as water restoration is close. Further updates will be provided as we progress with the repair.

Why water conservation matters in Wellington

Every drop of water counts, so we need to keep our eye on our water use. We need to be careful and efficient with our water use and help protect our environment and this precious resource.

Wellington’s daily water supply is limited. We can only take so much from the rivers and aquifers, treatment plants can only supply so much, and there is a limit to how much water we can store.

Building new lakes and storage facilities is expensive and heavily impacts the environment, that’s why we need to carefully manage demand and water loss on the public and private water networks everyone in Wellington has a part to play.

How does your water use stack up?

Little decisions we make everyday can have a huge impact on how much water we use. Think about your daily habits and see how much your water use stacks up. From showering, washing clothes, rinsing dishes and watering the garden, little decisions can make a big difference.

Save water with shorter showers

Reducing your shower time from 10 to 4 minutes can save up to 110 litres of water. Try showering for as long as a song, we have some handy playlists on Spotify for your to choose your favourite four minute song.

Reduce water waste at your place

Keep an eye on your wai, big changes start small and every change counts.

What about leaks?

Wellington's water supply is collected from rivers and the Waiwhetu aquifer before being treated (made clean to drink). It doesn't matter how much it rains as we can only collect and store so much. Our region's winter daily demand four years ago was about 150 million liters per day.

Note how drinking water is collected, treated and stored in the South Wairarapa differs from this video, see our water supply page for more information.
