Media release: Queens Wharf blockage cleared

The pipeline at the intersection of Brandon Street and Featherston Street has been cleared.
Both lanes on Featherston Street are now open.
The blockage, caused by a fatberg, resulted in a small amount of wastewater overflowing into the harbour.
We encourage people to dispose of fats and oils responsibly.
As fat and oil is tipped into the drain, it congeals and forms fatbergs.
This can cause blockages, resulting in overflows of wastewater, and can also damage important infrastructure.
We can all play a part in preventing this by waiting for fats and oils to cool before disposing of it in the bin.
We encourage members of the public to avoid swimming in the area.

Update, 12.30pm
Our crews have located the source of a wastewater overflow near Queens Wharf.
The overflow has been traced to a blockage caused by a fatberg at the intersection of Brandon Street and Featherston Street.
Traffic management is being put in place, with Featherston Street reduced to one lane while our crews flush the pipeline.
Unfortunately, the blockage caused some wastewater to overflow into the harbour.
We encourage members of the public to avoid swimming in the area.
