Please stay clear of the Elsdon wetlands pond

We have repaired the wastewater leak that has contaminated the Elsdon wetlands near Porirua School.

We are monitoring the area, and we will remove visible wastewater-related material from the surface.

As a precaution, please keep tamariki and pets away from the pond and surrounding area, and avoid contact with the water and plants until further notice.

Signs are in place around the pond. Please remind your tamariki to stay clear of the pond and surrounding area until further notice.

Eskdale Road and Conclusion Street Stormwater Renewal Project

On behalf of Porirua City Council, we're upgrading part of the stormwater network in Papakowhai. The works involves realignment of stormwater pipes in Eskdale Road and Conclusion Street to reduce the risk of flooding to properties and streets. The upgrade to the stormwater system will help ensure the network can better cope with heavy rainfall and flooding.

The project is due to start in November 2026. The first phase is in Eskdale Street with the final upgrade in Conclusion Street.

What to expect

  • An area of the Conclusion Walkway will be temporarily closed during the works - please see image below.
  • There will be traffic management in place on Conclusion Street.
  • There will be no access between the Walkway and Conclusion Street during the works.
  • The works are expected to be completed in January 2027.

There has been a history of flooding in the area surrounding 114 and 116 Conclusion St and 131 and 133 Eskdale Rd in Ascot Park.  Stormwater overflows have also caused significant damage to surrounding areas and private property, including flooding of habitable floors.

Tiaki Wai has since developed a solution to address this issue. The proposed works will redirect excess water to a safer overland flow path, reducing the risk of flooding and associated damage to the surrounding area and neighbouring properties during extreme weather events.
