Building a new drinking water pipe for Johnsonville in November
Construction on Johnsonville’s new drinking water main is planned to begin on Monday 2 November, with the first phase of works on Broderick Road, between Bannister Avenue and Moorefield Road.
Working hours will be 8am to 5pm, Monday to Friday. A site office and storage area will be located on Heath Street, with some car parks being removed temporarily.
This part of the project is expected to take three months, with the project overall planned to take a year.

Traffic management and delays for road users
Traffic management will be in place, including two detour routes to the north and south of the work area. Maps of the two detours are below. Our contractors will keep one lane of Broderick Road open as much as possible, but we encourage road users to avoid the area as much as possible to reduce traffic and delays.
We have worked closely with Wellington City Council to create a plan that lets our contractors work safely and efficiently, while reducing the impact on residents and road users. This means:
- The specific traffic management setup may change from day to day
- For the majority of the time, including overnight and on weekends, there will be one lane open with either traffic controllers or detour signs in place to guide road users, including cyclists, safely around the construction area
- On some days, the road may be closed for short periods between 10am and 2pm
- Footpaths will be kept open, or signs will direct people to alternative routes
- Emergency vehicles will always be prioritised to travel through the site

The pipe was installed between 1957 and 1960 and runs along Johnsonville Road, Disraeli Street and Broderick Road.
Tiaki Wai is working closely with Council to minimise the disruption on local residents, businesses and road users.
